PRIZES AND JUDGING

More than 20 Awards will be given-including the Grand Prize Winner-Best of the 2008 International Documentary Challenge.

All eligible films will be reviewed by the International Documentary Challenge judges-an independent panel of documentary professionals. Films will be judged on both story and production values, as well as adherence to genre.

Out of all of the entries, twelve “Best Films” will be named. These films will screen at the Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Film Festival in Toronto in April 2008 where the winners will be announced.

The Twelve Best films will be packaged as a feature-length program and screened at film festivals and film series’ across the world. All 12 Finalists receive a free registration in the following year’s competition.

The Grand Prize Winner will:

  • Receive $1,000 and a trophy
  • Screen at Hot Docs
  • Receive a 1 year membership to the International Documentary Association (includes a subscription to the magazine “Documentary”)

Other awards to be given:

  • Best Film in each Genre
  • Best Directing
  • Best Editing
  • Best Cinematography
  • Best Writing
  • Best Soundtrack
  • Best Use of Theme

To be eligible for judging, awards and prizes, the film must have been created within the competition period (8 a.m. March 6, 2008 through March 10, 2008), and must adhere to all of the Documentary Challenge rules.
